Although communication and negotiations for the Australian Superkart Championships and Nationals have been underway since the completion of our last event in November, final confirmation of the 2009 dates and circuits has only been received this week.
Mallala SA June 6/7th - Superkart Non-Gearbox Nationals
Winton Vic June 27/28th - Australian Superkart Championships Round One
Oran Park NSW August 29/30th - Australian Superkart Championships Round Two.
When considering a serious commitment to support at a prominent race series such as Shannons Nationals, arriving at a final arrangement to suit the demographics of our budget category is sometimes difficult. This year has had it’s challenges, and Shannons and Superkarts Australia have been able to arrive at a series participation outcome that should please all parties.
Our members should know that within our charter to provide a viable, high level platform for the Australian Superkart Championships and Nationals, SKA is mindful of members’ and clubs’ positions in terms of budget and logistics such as timing and travel. Although other possible avenues and events may present from time to time, we are of the view that Shannons Nationals continues to provide a stable and positive race series that meets the necessary criteria.
Members also should be assured that SKA makes the best possible efforts to secure events at the most suitable venues. Our gearbox entrants do love the events at Phillip Island and Eastern Creek circuits which are eminently suitable for our category; however for 2009, Phillip Island was unavailable due to rotational commitments for Shannons categories, and Oran Park which is open only until the end of ’09 was chosen over a higher cost Eastern Creek as our NSW venue for next year.
So, following discussions with Shannons where initially some unsuitable options were canvassed the following confirmation was received which in part reads;

In the coming weeks, SKA will formulate a 2009 Championships Registration scheme which will provide a method for superkarters to obtain a series race event entry discount in return for their registration and commitment to participate. This enables superkarters to assist SKA to make the considerable financial commitment to secure these events. The importance of member involvement in this area should not be under-estimated, nor should the focus of SKA to keep Superkarting a viable and strong motorsport category.
