Hossack, Latta and Tamasi Are The ChampionsPosted by Mark Jones, 16 August 2010, 8:00 AM |
Darren Hossack (Safe Evolutions Anderson-Safe) wins the Rockpress Australian Superkart Championship, thanks to his win in the final heat at Morgan Park breaking a tie on 140 points with Warren McIlveen (Soundy's Retravision / Mac's Marine Stockman MR2 Honda).
The drama of the final race started before the race did. Gary Pegoraro was out for the weekend, his championship challenge over. This left McIlveen and Hossack to fight for the title. At the start Hossack bolted clear and ran away. McIlveen sat second and second was enough for the title. Team mate Sam Zavaglia settled into a rear gunner position but the pair were quickly taken by Jason Smith. Jason Laker and Ilya Harps quickly caught the McIlveen pack as McIlveen's kart slowed, then Steven Murray and Chryss Jamieson joined the fight. Third place tied the points for McIlveen and Hossack at 140 each. Hossack's superior position in the final race decided the title in his favour. Zavaglia, Laker, Murray, Jamieson and Harpas followed McIlveen home.
Martin Latta (Viper Racing UK/MJR Bricklaying Anderson Maverick-Honda) won the 250 National class after title rival Luke May (Marron Excavations Stockman MR2-Yamaha) broke a chain in the final race. Anton Stevens finished second in the final race ahead of Brendan Luneman and Frank Giglio.
Steven Tamasi (Domain Prestige Homes Stockman MR2 Honda) overwhelmed Darren Dunn (Broadbent Compressor Services Topkart-Honda) in the final race to take a two point win in the 125 Gearbox class. Reed's engine failed on the final lap and he crossed the line in fourth behind Tim Philp. Lindsay Jamieson, Dalton Rowell, Drene Jamieson, Phil Silcock and Doug Amiss finsihing in a spreadout chain behind the faltering Reed.
