Backing up his sixth from qualifying, Carlo Chermaz placed sixth in the first of two races at the Assen TT circuit for the third and final round of the European Superkart Championship. Driving the factory supported Buildersmile Construction PVP Chermaz shadowed British ADE-PVP driver Mark Owens to the line after a fight for fifth position, with Carl Hulme (Anderson-FPE) a similar gap behind.
The race was dominated by Gavin Bennett in his Anderson-DEA finishing ten seconds clear of Peter Elkmann (MS Kart-Yamaha) and Damien Payart (PVP-FPE).
Sam Zavaglia improved from his qualifying position substantially after gearbox problems sidelined him for much of qualifying. After starting 33rd, the new Australian Champion climbed into 19th position in his Anderson-PVP, chasing home Dutch sports car veteran Cor Euser.
Chermaz sixth position moves him up to eleventh in the championship with only Assen's Race 2 left to run in the series.
