A word from the ChairmanPosted by Phil Silcock, 5 August 2009, 8:51 AM |
Dear Members,
I would like to start by thanking all the entrants to this years Shannon's Superkart Nationals, sponsored by Art Motor Sport and Anton Stevens. This event would not be possible without dedicated racers and their families and crews.
The two round series is now over for 2009 and the places declared.
The 250cc class was won by, Sam Zavaglia, Followed by Darren Hossack and Gary Pegoraro. The 125cc Class was won by Steven Tamasi, followed by Jeff Reid and John Pellicano.
Eastern Creek was the second round of the Shannon's National Superkart series. The mood was light on the Friday as all the teams worked to find what the Sydney circuit had to offer, some had not seen the track for some years. It was clear that many of the placings were up for the taking and by the Saturday everyone was ready for a hard charge for the win.
The weather was kind for us and from speaking to some teams, were pleased with the setup chosen. Although the most important thing for me was the success of the series, I always have a soft spot for my club members’ performances. Jeff Reid was dominant over the weekend chalking up heat wins that would eventually make up for the mishaps at round one in South Australia. A second place for the Championship showed us all what a dominant driver and a well prepared Kart combination achieves. John Pellicano, had a seemingly impossible task of bringing a place coming into the second round, but his never say die attitude saw him snatch third place from Rodd Conn by one single point. An amazing come back by John, I think he even surprised himself! Jason Laker followed his inspiring run from Malalla, improving his driving and Kart preparation, to allow him to stay with the front runners. Frank Gigglio ran a solid campaign. It was great to see him back this year. Warren McIlveen run wasn't to see him on the podium this year but his past success and professional presence always makes him a favorite in the pit.
At the end of the day it was all Sam Zavaglia, the wins were convincing even though all of the front runners were only some hundredths apart in qualifying. Steven Tamasi was an outstanding entrant being so young, to win the outright 125cc class was a credit to him and his father. A great team.
SKA is now looking forward to next year and is currently formulating ways to improve our series for the competitor. The National series is reliant on all states to be involved and I am looking to its leaders to make the commitment to secure the future of Superkarting in Australia, in particular the cost burden and member benefits from a combined state action co operation.
Finally this whole event would not be possible without you and your families and friends. Thank you to everyone who made this year possible.
Shannons, Rob Curkpatrick, Superkarts Australia, Anton Stevens, Phil Silcock, Dave Bellenger (a real trooper, thanks Dave), The South Australia Superkart Club, Ron Goldfinch, Graeme Williams, The New South Wales Superkart Club, Wayne Horswell, Phil Eggins, SWG, John Pellicano, Mark Jones and all the volunteers that worked in both rounds, without you all, this event would not be possible.
I look forward to seeing you all next year,
Clint Brown.
Chairman.
Superkarts Australia.
