<![CDATA[SKA Board Appointment]]> Following completion of a highly successful 2011 Australian Superkart Championship, the Board of SKA met on Friday 25th November 2011 to review the year’s performance and to plan for 2012 and beyond. In this review, the SKA Board members were of the unanimous opinion that 2011 season was both exciting for the competitors as it was successful for them and the whole superkarting fraternity. The success that has been realised in the years up to and including 2011 has been the result of persistent endeavours to provide high quality motor racing for all national level superkarters. These endeavours have been lead with passion and pride by the SKA Chairman, Clint Brown since 2009. With the success that has been achieved the board resolved that there is opportunity to continue to further advance the success of our championship through renewed board leadership. This resolution resulted in SKA appointing David McAdam as the new Chairman of SKA effective immediately. Clint Brown will stay on as a director of SKA and provide valuable and respected input to the operation of our Championship.
In stepping down from the role of Chairman, Clint said “..SKA has in the recent years continued to grow and improve in its core role as manager of the Australian Superkart Championship and this success is something that I am personally very proud to have lead. I welcome the opportunity to continue with my fellow members of the board and ensure that we seamlessly transition into 2012 and deliver even better championship events for our members. I am excited that David has accepted the role of Chairman as I am confident that his racing, business and leadership experience can only further add to making our championship the premier event of the racing calendar”
David McAdam has been a director of SKA for the past 12 months. As a superkart racer David brings to the Chairmanship a solid knowledge of racing along with more than 30 years of significant business operations and leadership experience across a range of major organisations. In accepting the position David commented that “...SKA is a fantastic organisation that focuses on its role of managing the Australian Superkart Championship. It is this focus that has enabled SKA to continue to improve event management each year. In taking on the role of Chairman of the Board I am looking forward to leading the creation of improved services for the members of SKA, exciting racing for the competitors and fans alike, and an improved image for superkarting as a racing category that represents the greatest thrill and competitive spirit imaginable. I thank Clint for his great efforts and I look forward to his wisdom in the future.”
The Board of SKA want to thank Clint for his tireless efforts as well as his persistence in managing our way through the various issues that have arisen in the course of the journey to date.
The plans for 2012 are exciting so watch this space for further announcements in the coming months.
Regards
Superkarts Australia Pty Ltd (SKA) Board of Directors
David McAdam, Clint Brown, Phil Silcock, Carlo Chermaz, John Pellicano, Mark Hanson, Anton Stevens & Tony Lappas

<![CDATA[2011 SUPERKART CHAMPIONSHIP WRAPUP]]> ROUND 2 PHILLIP ISLAND RUN AND WON

SKA commends all competitors on presenting a hard fought and fine racing spectacle that was the 2011 Australian Superkart Championship. ASC 2011 has been hallmarked by the emergence of new and fine machines, better superkart and team presentation along with supreme driver performances, and a strengthening of the great camaraderie that is the ongoing essence of Australian Superkarting.

To the victors come the spoils of this successful high level competition. The winners and runner up placings in classes were all very well earned by big efforts of good preparation and fine racing, and that ounce of luck that comes from commitment and hard work. SKA congratulates all competitors on their efforts and success in showcasing this sport in the best possible way.

At an organisational level, thanks and appreciation must go to many people, championships don’t just happen, devoted persons contribute their time, resources and energy to make them happen.
Again there have been marvellous efforts all round, but special mention must go to Clint Brown and his partner Joanne who tirelessly fronted the SKA Category Event Management at both Rounds. The backroom contributions from the SKA team of directors to coordinate aspects of the race event and associated functions has been vital. General mention must also go to Superkart Club Members and Executives for their support and contributions. Particularly, appreciation for a fine effort in assisting the championship to success goes to a huge many folk and not necessarily a complete list or in order we acknowledge Mark Jones, Pam Pegoraro, Tony Annabell, Ashley Zahl, Wayne Horswell, Dallas and Doug Brooks, Les May, Jason Smith, John Mason, Peter Nelson, Rob Curkpatrick and others.

A success for the Phillip Island Round will be the telecast of the racing via SBS Speedweek on December 4th and Fox SpeedChannel. SKA made a major contribution to fund this promotion and appreciation goes to the telecast joint sponsors Rockpress Metal Fabrications Phil Silcock, STR Truck Bodies Matthew and Shannon Palmer, Zip BDH Dave and Barb Hepworth, and the Qld Superkart Club for making this level of superkart promotion possible. John Pellicano graciously attended at AVE on behalf of SKA for compilation and editing of the large amount of footage into the final production that will go to air.

SKA also acknowledges the contributions of significant sponsorship from Supercheap Auto Group, IKD Kartsport, Zahl1Karting, Art Motorsport and others whom contributed goods and services to the Dinner Function and Podium prizes.

<![CDATA[Provisional Australian Superkart Championship Points]]> Warren McIlveen in the Mac's Marine/Stockman Superkarts Stockman-Honda only took his first 2011 race victory on Sunday morning at Phillip Island, but it was the shot in the arm to pull away from Darren Hossack in the Safe Evolutions Anderson-Safe and the last two races he proved to have enough buffer to hold of the closing www.artmotorsport.com.au PVP-FPE of Anton Stevens. It is McIlveen's eighth Australian Superkart title win and his seventh (expanding his own record) in the 250 International Class.

Luke May won seven out of seven races in the STR Truck Bodies/Dunlop Kartsport Anderson-Honda in the 250 National class. He never looked like being threatened until Dalton Rowell trimmed four seconds of his lap time in Race 3 keeping the title alive to the final race by the slimmest of margins.

Jeff Reed needed to retire in the last race and Tim Philp needed to win to deny Reed a long awaited 125 championship after being close for three years. Reed's Honda RS125 engine siezed in the Enware/The Chrome Shop Stockman as he was leaving the pits leaving Reed a nervous wait as he waited to see if Philp could beat Brad Stebbing to take the win. He could not by five seconds, leaving Reed nonetheless a deserving champion.
